NAME

autoprove - automatically prove your application with tests

SYNOPSIS

Simply run this command and leave it in the foreground:

$ autoprove

You may add a few 'prove' options:

$ autoprove --shuffle --fork

And/or specify only the test programs that you want to run automatically:

$ autoprove t/mytest.t t/another.t

DESCRIPTION

This program is a CLI front-end to the module Test::Continuous. It is basically the equivalent of running:

perl -MTest::Continuous -e Test::Continuous::runtests

But simpler.

Test results are displayed on terminal. If Log::Dispatch::DesktopNotification is installed, test results will also be notified through that channel. If running on Mac, it'll be Growl, if it's on Linux desktop, it's done with Log::Dispatch::Gtk2::Notify.

Test::Continuous will auto detect the subset of tests to run. For example, say you have two test files feature-foo.t and feature-bar.t which test, and use, your module Feature::Foo and Feature::Bar respectively. Test::Continuous can catch this static dependency and only run feature-foo.t when Feature::Foo is modified, feature-bar.t will only be run if Feature::Bar is modified.

If a .t file is modified, only that test file will be run.

CONFIGURATION AND ENVIRONMENT

Test::Continuous requires no configuration files.

Your .proverc is NOT loaded, even though it's based on App::Prove.

The autoprove script parses arguments on the command line or passed via the environment variable AUTOPROVE_OPTS. All autoprove options are prefixed with --autoprove- (in both the command line and the environmental variable).

Valid options:

--autoprove-no-skip-initial (Default)
--autoprove-skip-initial

These options allow control over whether the initial tests are run when autoprove is first started. By default, autoprove will run all tests when executed, and then wait for changes.

Using --autoprove-skip-initial skips the initial tests and goes straight to watching for changes to files. Generally, you should run all tests, in case something changed while Test::Continuous was not running. The --autoprove-no-skip-initial is provided so that you can override an environmental variable AUTOPROVE_OPTS that includes --autoprove-skip-initial via the command line, by passing autoprove the --autoprove-no-skip-initial option.
