    - Check configuration files at install time to preserve local changes made after Build.PL.
    - Restore active configuration files when installation fails and preserve
      existing -old backups.
    - Protect every sysconfdir payload file as configuration, even when it is
      not explicitly listed in conffiles.
    - Replace installed SPc modules atomically and abort before recording
      checksums if rewriting fails.
    - Handle source and destination paths literally, including paths containing
      regular-expression metacharacters and spaces.
    - Serialize installed SPc paths as Perl literals, including Unicode and
      interpolation characters; support multiline and indented simple
      accessors, and reject unsupported accessor definitions atomically.
