Wäre <i>Die Welle</i> ein Roman, man könnte den Inhalt des Buchs kaum glauben. Aber so (oder doch zumindest ähnlich) ist es wirklich passiert, in der Klasse des Lehrers Ron Jones in den USA -- einer Klasse an einer Schule also, die sich so weit weg wähnte vom deutschen Nazi-Terror, und die dann doch auf schmerzliche Weise am eigenen Leib erfahren musste, dass die Regeln des Faschismus auch heute noch funktionieren und dass es jeden treffen kann.<p> In <i>Die Welle</i> beginnt alles mit einem Film über den Holocaust. Der junge Lehrer Ben Ross zeigt den Schülern der Gordon High School Bilder von ausgermergelten Juden im Konzentrationslager. Alle sind angewidert und entsetzt, aber eine Gruppe um Laurie Saunders von der Schülerzeitung "Die Ente" kann und will nicht glauben, dass Menschen zu derlei Grausamkeiten überhaupt fähig sind. Um sie und andere zu überzeugen, startet Ross ein Experiment, dass auf fast unbemerkte Art und Weise Methoden der Diktatur installiert. Und plötzlich zerfällt der Klassenverbund in Opfer und Täter -- bis die Situation auf schreckliche Weise eskaliert.<p> Inzwischen gehört <i>Die Welle</i> des 55-jährigen Autors <a href="/exec/obidos/exact-author=Rhue%2c%20Morton/${0}">Morton Rhue</a> (<a href="/exec/obidos/ASIN/3473581720/${0}"><i>Ich knall euch ab!</i></a>, <a href="/exec/obidos/ASIN/3473582123/${0}"><i>Asphalt Tribe</i></a>) zum Kanon auch an deutschen Schulen. Und das ist gut so. Denn das Buch räumt mit dem weit verbreiteten Vorurteil auf, dass der Nationalsozialismus ein historisches Phänomen war, das nicht wiederkommen kann. "Wie kann man Millionen von Menschen abschlachten, ohne dass jemand etwas davon weiß?" Auch wenn <i>Die Welle</i> Fragen wie diese nicht beantworten kann, so wirft der Roman sie doch auf. Im Kino läuft gerade die Verfilmung von Morton Rhues "Die Welle", dem Lektüreklassiker über ein außer Kontrolle geratenes Schulprojekt zum Thema Autokratie. Ein guter Zeitpunkt, um die in den 80er-Jahren veröffentlichte Geschichte auch als Hörstück auf den Markt zu bringen. Dieses Zwei-CD-Hörspiel ist allerdings keine eigenständige Produktion, sondern ein reines Nebenprodukt des Films: Originale Filmdialoge wurden inklusive der atmosphärischen Geräuschkulisse zusammengeschnitten; als Erzähler fungiert Stefan Kaminski, der die Gesprächsfetzen miteinander verbindet und Teile der Handlung zusammenfasst. Grundsätzlich funktioniert das sehr gut, auch wenn man ein wenig braucht, um die Stimmen den Charakteren zuzuordnen. Was nervt, ist der Vortrag Kaminskis: Er klingt so betulich wie die Sprecher alter Kinderhörspielkassetten. Da die Story eh eine sehr junge ist, verleiht das dem gesamten Hörspiel den Anstrich einer Produktion, die allenfalls in Jugend- oder Klassenzimmern Gehör findet. (jul)

Als wir in der 10. Klasse die Weltkriege und NS-Zeit behandelten, gab es, ganz wie in der Klasse des Romans hier, einige, die sich fragten: "Wie kam es dazu?" und "Wieso haben so viele einfach mit gemacht?" Ich gehörte nicht zu den Schülern, die das fragten. Aber wohl auch nur deshalb, weil ich zuvor "Die Welle" gelesen hatte und somit zumindest eine Ahnung hatte, was da vor sich ging.
<br />"Die Welle" beschreibt die wahren Ereignisse an einer amerikanischen Schule. Es fängt harmlos an, indem auch sie die NS-Zeit durch nehmen und ein Experiment wagt, bei dem jeder einer Gruppe zugeteilt wird und jeder bestimmte Rechte hat (oder sie ihm verwehrt werden). Schnell breitet sich das Experiment auf die ganze Schule aus und scheint zu eskalieren.
<br />Ein Ruf: "Stop! Das war nur ein Spiel! Und jetzt sage ich: dass es vorbei ist." hätte nichts genützt. Also muss der Lehrer einen anderen Weg finden, dieses Experiment sinnvoll zu beenden. Seine Lösung ist so einfach wie genial und ich persönlich war trotzdem überrascht.
<br />Ein großartiges Buch für den, der mehr erfahren möchten, warum so viele Hitler (scheinbar) willenlos und ohne Fragen gefolgt sind. Bei weitem nicht nur ein Roman für Jugendliche.

Eine faszinierende und beängstigende Lektüre zugleich ist „Die Welle" von Morton Rhue. Kaum jemand kann sich heute noch vorstellen, wie es den Machthabenden im Dritten Reich gelungen ist das Volk dermaßen zu beeinflussen, daß es in diesem Maße auf deren Parolen hörte. Diese Geschichte erzählt von einem Lehrer, der in seiner Klasse ein Experiment durchführt, welches auf ähnliches hinausläuft. Der ganze Unterricht wird nach strengen Regeln abgehalten und eine bestimmte Rangordnung setzt sich unter den Schülern fest. Dieses Buch soll den Leser zum Nachdenken anregen. Die Gefahr, sich von anderen manipulieren zu lassen, ist in einer Zeit der Massenmedien immer gegeben. Wer schon einmal auf Massenkundgebungen war hat solche Effekte der Manipulation sicher schon einmal erlebt. Der Autor will mit seinem Buch andeuten, daß die Manipulation der Massen bei uns jederzeit wieder möglich ist. Das ist definitiv eines der Buecher, die man eben gelesen haben sollte. Ein Stueck Allgemeinbildung und Horizonterweiterung sozusagen.
<br />Es ist in sehr einfacher, teils fast schon primitiver Sprache geschrieben und man hat es sehr schnell durchgelesen. Der Inhalt jedoch, gerade weil er auf wahren Tatsachen basiert, verliert deshalb kaum an Wert.
<br />Das Buch regt zum Nachdenken an. Zum Ueberdenken, Nichtvergessen und dazu, sich selbst klar zumachen, was "damals" geschehen ist.
<br />Es wirkt aber auch ein Stueck weit appelierend und augenoeffnend. Folge nicht blind, denke selbststaendig und hinterfrage Dinge.
<br />Auch wenn es eigentlich ein Jugendbuch ist, schadet es keinem Erwachsenen es zu lesen. Sehr Empfehlenswert.
