The verify_hostname_of_cert function in the certificate checking feature in IO-Socket-SSL (IO::Socket::SSL) 1.14 through 1.25 only matches the prefix of a hostname when no wildcard is used, which allows remote attackers to bypass the hostname check for a certificate.

Changes for version 2.098 - 2026-01-06

  • Another fix to issue #175 to make sure that an unblessed sockets gets blessed in place instead of using new_from_fd. Document that it will not retain original class with unblessed sockets on error, since this never worked anyway (there is no native unbless)
