The Default constructor
The Default constructor will accept any named parameters defined by 'construct_with'. In the absence of a 'construct_with' declaration, any parameters passed to the default constructor are ignored.
The example counter in the "SYNOPSIS" in Minions always starts at zero. Let's upgrade it to start from a user supplied value, so we can use it this way

To make this work, we change the interface to accept a starting value when constructing the counter, and we change the implementation to make use of this starting value.

Here the 'count' attribute is bound to the 'start' constructor parameter using the init_arg declaration. We also used an assert declaration to constrain the value of the 'start' parameter.
Positional parameters
Sometimes, we'd like our constructor to take positional parameters. Consider a set object that we'd create by passing a list of items.

This can be acheieved using the "build_args" declaration, with which we use a sub to wrap the argument array in a hash. This sub is itself wrapped around the default constructor, so that the positional arguments given by a user are passed to the constructor in the keyword style it expects.

BUILD
If this subroutine is defined, it will be called by the default constructor and will receive (as its 2nd and 3rd arguments) the object and a hashref of named parameters that were passed to the constructor.
This is useful for carrying out any post-construction logic e.g. object validation.
BUILD can be used for validating the relation between attributes

It can also be used to process constructor arguments, e.g. the counter implementation above can also be written using BUILD instead of init_arg (though init_arg is preferable due being more concise).

Bring your own constructor
If the default constructor is not flexible enough and you need to write your own constructor, this can be done with the aid of the utility class.
The utility class
Each class has a corresponding utility class. Within a class method, the utility class is obtained by calling the utility_class
routine (see example below).
The utility_class has the following construction related methods
new_object
This creates a new instance, in which attributes with declared defaults are populated with those defaults, and all others are populated with undef.
build
This can be used in a class method to invoke the semiprivate BUILD routine for an object after the object is created.
assert
Given the name of a declared attribute and a value, this routine validates the value using any assertions declared with the attribute.
