replace "https" (keyword in constructor) with "ssl". you can check SMTP over SSL: "ssl => 'example.com:465'" without incongruity. ;p) (thanks: mizzy)

obtain expiration date of certificate

To install Net::SSL::ExpireDate, copy and paste the appropriate command in to your terminal.

cpanm Net::SSL::ExpireDate

perl -MCPAN -e shell
install Net::SSL::ExpireDate
