CVE-2023-7101 (2023-12-24)

Spreadsheet::ParseExcel version 0.65 is a Perl module used for parsing Excel files. Spreadsheet::ParseExcel is vulnerable to an arbitrary code execution (ACE) vulnerability due to passing unvalidated input from a file into a string-type “eval”. Specifically, the issue stems from the evaluation of Number format strings (not to be confused with printf-style format strings) within the Excel parsing logic.

Changes for version 0.48

  • ! Fixed bug where numbers with uppercase formats such as MM/DD/YY weren't formatted. Applies to files created by OpenOffice.org and some international versions of Excel. Added tests for above. http://rt.cpan.org/Public/Bug/Display.html?id=20526 http://rt.cpan.org/Public/Bug/Display.html?id=31206 http://rt.cpan.org/Public/Bug/Display.html?id=40307
