NAME
CPAN::Digger - To dig CPAN
SYNOPSIS
This module is the the web application running at http://.... You can use the interface by browsing there.
For internal usage follow the SETUP section.
SETUP
Download the tar.gz file. Open it and install all its dependencies.
Running perl script\cpan_digger.pl will create a local database using the module given in the directory given with the --dir option.
Running CPAN-Digger-WWW.pl will launch a stand-alone web server.
CPAN::Mini
quick instruction for using CPAN::Mini
- minicpan -l /home/gabor/Downloads/cpan -r http://cpan.pair.com/ ftp://cpan.hexten.net/ - allow the installation of CPAN::Digger and let the indexer copy all the files necessary to run the operation
Proc::Daemon does not show the documentation http://cpandigger.org/dist/Proc-Daemon
http://ontwik.com/perl/perl-programming-best-practices/
Using unzipped releases: sudo mkdir /var/www/cpan-digger sudo mkdir /var/www/cpan-digger/logs sudo chmod a+w /var/www/cpan-digger/logs sudo mkdir /var/www/cpan-digger/digger sudo chown gabor.gabor /var/www/cpan-digger/digger cd /var/www/cpan-digger/ sudo tar xzf CPAN-Digger-0.02.tar.gz sudo mkdir CPAN-Digger-0.02/logs sudo chmod a+w CPAN-Digger-0.02/logs edit the environments/production.yml file and set the path to the database to /var/www/cpan-digger/digger/digger.db
Indexing
CPAN indexes:
authors/01mailrc.txt.gz by Parse::CPAN::Authors (we don't use this) (CPAN.pm uses)
authors/00whois.xml by Parse::CPAN::Whois (superset of the above)
modules/02packages.details.txt.gz by Parse::CPAN::Packages (CPAN.pm uses)
also by CPAN::PackageDetails
modules/03modlist.data.gz (CPAN.pm uses)
Word indexing (planned)
For each distribution split up the name and each part of the name becomes a word
For each module name probably the parts of the name might be words though the last part should be the most significants
META.yml might have some keywords stored
Names of the functions / methods
Gull text indexing of the POD for each module
Various sections might have different weight.
Later we will allow users of the site to add keywords to the modules/distributions
Store each keyword in lowercase only and map everything to lowercase for each word include where it could be found
word type_of_source the source
cgi distro CGI-Simple
cgi distro CGI-Application
cgi module CGI::Simple
cgi module CGI::Application
Projects
CPAN::Digger is (going to be) capable of processing non-CPAN projects as well. We are still trying to design how that should work. Let's start with one example:
Dreamwidth http://dreamwidth.org uses Mercurial to maintain their source code. To check out their main repository type:
hg clone http://hg.dwscoalition.org/dw-free/
projects file: Name: DW-Free will be used as the distribution Version: 1.0 some projects might want to index several versions, this field can be used to indicated that Author: DREAMWIDTH will be used instead of the PAUSEID (a leading underscore can ensure there is no conflict with real (even future) PAUSEIDs) Path: /path/to/source path to where the source code lives (CPAN::Digger will copy the files from there) Description: some text not used by the digger
Currently the Digger won't try to update the source directory using the VCS tools.
